In God's Hands

July 20, 2009

July 11, 2009, HQ Church, Seoul, Korea

It is in God’s hands; He is an eternal God, and in the land of eternity there’s no time constraints. God promised that we would be recognized and we will inspire the world with the words of True Parents; it’s time for us to do our part, to believe, to take heart, to be encouraged, to encourage each other, to have faith, and to move forward with that kind of hope and enthusiasm. When we do that, we are going to clear through the fog that clouds our visions, we will clear through the doubts that try to weigh us down and warp our sense of reality, saying “You’re never going to make it.” And we start moving towards the shining bright new horizon that God is preparing for us. See, when we do that, when we understand that it’s in God’s hands we’re going to move forward with more strength, more victory, we’re going to inherit the true love of God and live up to our destiny that God has prepared for us.

Opening Prayer by Reverend Michael Brazil:

Our Heavenly Father and our Heavenly Mother, we want to thank You so much that we can be here today. We thank You for Your love, for Your grace, for guiding and protecting us throughout this week, allowing us to be here. We want to truly open our hearts and our minds to You, allowing You to flow in. We want to welcome You, asking You to be here with us. We know that when two or more are gathered in Your name, You are there. We also believe that You do not go where You are uninvited, so we truly want to invite You to be here today. We want to give You our hearts, our joy, our victories. We also want to offer You our challenges and difficulties, even our complaints because we know You want to dwell with us. You want to know everything about us. You are there to support and to love us. You want us to offer all that we have to You. We know that You believe in us, that You are there for us. You will receive us in your hands. We thank You for believing in us, for being our biggest fan, our most incredible parents. Again, we welcome You. We ask that You speak through our speakers today, that You really, share Your love and Your heart through them. Help us to receive their word that we might be more empowered to go forward and truly become your great sons and daughters. We offer all of this to You as sons and daughters, as blessed brothers and sisters from around the world. Aju.

Welcoming Remarks:

Yeon Ah Nim

Welcome brothers and sisters. Good afternoon. Welcome to our HQ Unification Church. Today, we have a glorious day to worship our Heavenly Father. So, let’s praise our Heavenly Father and let us give our victory, our grace and our true love to our Heavenly Father and True Parents. Welcome brothers and welcome sisters.

Hyung Jin Nim

Aju! Welcome brothers and sisters. Let’s start by manifesting the Principle. Let’s do it together, ready? Give and receive action, four-position foundation, all coming into one, centered on God’s True Love. Aju! Thank you.

We are going to start with Cheon Seong Gyeong page 934 today. Father speaks. He says, ”The moment of fulfillment of the ideal of God’s love is established when God, as the internal parent, achieves complete oneness with Adam and Eve as the external parents. God, the incorporeal parent, becomes the eternal parent in the corporeal world by taking on the form of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve can then become the True Parents and the true ancestors of all humankind.”

Brothers and sisters, we see here again the model and the ideal of creation. We see the symbol that God intended for the world. We see the model there, the give and receive action, the parents centered on God, husband and wife in a true love relationship, children attending their parents with true love. When that model is established, then God is dwelling in this place and then God is dwelling on this earth. See, this was the model in the very beginning, and this was the model that God has been trying to restore throughout human history, and this is the very model that our True Parents have established victoriously. Let’s give them a holy shout of praise!

Wow, I hear you over there. You guys look fantastic today. It is Saturday and you look even better than if it was Sunday. You look good, you feel good. We are here to worship God and True Parents. We are here to honor them. We are here to do our best, do our part. So we give them great strength today. We know that the next week will be tremendous. We are not going to come out with a heavy heart, “My next week, woe is me, woe is me. I’ve got a lot of things to do!” We are coming here to say, “You know what, I am going to be awesome this week. God bless me, protect me, and give me grace.” If you believe it let’s give it up for God. [Applause]

Brothers and sisters, we want to welcome you at this service. Today is a great day to be alive. Aju? Let’s all offer it to God. We are going to have a great service. Let’s all rise and do the Family Pledge together.

Hyung Jin Nim’s remarks about prayer:

Brothers and sisters, let’s unite our mind and body. Let’s start with our body. Let’s stretch the hands towards the earth today. I want you to listen to the sounds of the songs. Listen to the words and hear the prayers that are coming out of those songs. I want you to allow it to move your heart and as we pray, let’s pray for those who are in the spirit world. If you came with a guest, let’s take time to pray for that guest. Let’s make partners and pray for each other. Let’s take time for prayer. Listen to the song and pray together as one. Let us pray.

Hyung Jin Nim prays: Father, we thank You so much for all those incredible Abel spirits that are protecting us, that are our guardian angels and, Father, we want to pray for each and every one of our brothers and sisters here today. We want to pray for our guardian angels, those Abel good spirits, so that they can continue to do great works working with the physical world. We want to thank You so much. We want to pray and give thanks and glory to You. In our own names as blessed central families, we pray with gratitude. Aju.

Thank you brothers and sisters. It’s always so good to pray for one another, it’s always so good to extend our hearts. Remember that, yes we are a community, and yes we are on this path together. We are not alone. Sometimes we may feel that we are alone but it is so important to remember whenever we walk, we walk in a company of good people. We walk in the company of brothers and sisters. Tell your neighbor you are my brother and sister. Let’s tell your neighbor that. Come on. Let’s stand up and greet the person sitting next to you.

Interesting Story:

Brothers and sisters, you know we always like to start with something a little interesting, little interesting, and I heard a little story. The Mom was at church, she came with her little daughter and all of a sudden the little girl started feeling a little sick. She said to her Mom, “Mommy, I need to go; can we go?” Mommy said, “Honey, we can’t go right now, it’s in the middle of service! We can’t go!” “Well Mommy, I think I’m going to throw up, I feel really sick,” the girl said. “Alright honey, this is what you do. You go outside of the church and go around to the back and there’s a bunch of bushes there. In the bushes, go do your thing, okay, and then come back.” After just about 45 seconds, a very short amount of time, the little girl returned to her seat. The Mom said, “Honey, did you do your thing? Did you do your business?” The girl said, “Yes, I did it! I did it! I feel fantastic right now!” And Mom said, “Honey, how did you make it back so quick? How did you make it back in 45 seconds?” The little girl said, “Well, Mommy, I didn’t have to go outside; right next to the front door there was a box that said FOR THE SICK. I did it there.” [Laughter]

Main Sermon :

Brothers and Sisters, today I’d like to talk to you about the fact that it’s all in God’s hands. You know, in order to live the blessed life we have to know that we are in God’s hands. And it’s a folly to think that we have got ourselves to where we are. Of course, we have the 5% responsibility, we have 100% effort, we had to study, we had to get the good grades, to get to the good college, get the job, etc. Sure. That’s all there. But it is so important to remember that without God’s protection we could have been very quickly steered into another direction, we could have even lost our life in a split second, in a car accident, in a helicopter accident, in a plane accident, etc., in a number of ways. Remembering that we are in God’s hands and coming into presence with Him with praise and thanksgiving, this is one of the keys to living the blessed life.

Let’s take a look at some of our World Scriptures today. As Unificationists we like to look at all the religious traditions. Let’s look at them today. Let’s look at Judaism and Christianity, this is Deuteronomy 32:39, we’ll read that together: “There is no God beside me, I kill and I make alive, I wound and I heal, and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.” We see that God is there, He is present and He is in control of our lives. Many times we may not understand what happens in our life, the situations, the circumstances that may come against us, obstacles in our path. But we have to remember, just like Deuteronomy says, that it is in God’s hands, it is in the palm of His hands.

Let’s take a look at Confucianism today: this is the Book of Songs 254. Let’s read this together: “Revere the changing moods of Heaven and presume not to drive about at your pleasure; Great Heaven is intelligent.” Great Heaven sees what we are doing. We are in the palm of Heaven’s hands, so to speak; we have to revere and pay attention to the great moods of Heaven, so it says in the Confucian tradition.

Let’s take a look at Islam today: this is the Qur’an, second Sura, 117th verse; we’ll read this together: “The Creator of the heavens and the earth, when He decrees a thing, He but says to it ‘Be,’ and it is.” You see, God is in control. We know here that God is not just some Creator far away but God is in our lives. When He says “It happens”, when He says “Now is the time”, that is the time when it shall occur.

Let’s look at True Parents’ words today. Let’s read this together: “What is the main idea of the Unification Church? It’s simply to live for others. Even if the whole world opposes, the Unification Church has survived because we know that we will be saved in the hands of God. If we exist for God and if we exist for something, we can overcome any opposition.” You see, Father is telling us here that although we may have to put in our big effort and we have to accomplish our 5% responsibility, in the end, because of the grace of God, because of God’s presence, because He moves with True Parents, because He moves with the movement, then we will be able to overcome obstacles and overcome situations that are coming up against us. This is very important. Brothers and sisters, if you climb Cheong Pyeong mountain in the morning you will see a beautiful cloud sea; you will see a beautiful fog that just envelops the entire region. So beautiful! You’ve probably all seen this kind of fog dwelling over cities, dwelling over mountainous regions, etc., and we all know that fog can cover cities; we know that fog also can force airports to shut down, cancel flights. Many times our flights have been delayed because of fog, because of not clear visibility.

It can even create accidents, like in the case of True Parents’ helicopter accident at Cheong Pyeong. We know that the big fog came all of a sudden, and it blinded the drivers. You see, fog is very deceptive. It is very disorienting. Did you know that research shows that in fog people tend to drive faster than when it’s clear? Isn’t that very strange? When you look at people who drive in the fog they actually drive faster because your mind perceives that you’re moving slower than you actually are. When you move through the fog, it seems like you’re moving slower than you actually are. Thus people drive faster, research shows, when driving through the fog. You see, fog makes us blind, it disorients us, and it warps our sense of reality. We think we’re moving slow. We think we’re not getting through but in reality we’re moving actually quite fast.

I read that a cloud of fog that can cover 4 big city blocks can fit into a small glass of water just like that. One glass of water; big fog that can cover 4 big blocks long can fit into a normal glass of water. In other words, the fog seems very big, very humongous in our eyes; it’s vast; it covers mountains; covers cities but in reality the substance of the fog is nothing more than a glass of water. It’s so small. It’s so weak. It’s in the same way, just like this, how fog disorients our mind. How fog tricks us into feeling scared about our future. This is exactly what the enemy does. He comes in and fogs our vision, clouds our vision. He disorients us, makes us warp our sense of reality. We’re thinking this is a huge obstacle, huge thing. In reality it’s the size of a water glass but it seems humongous.

When you see it in your mind, we start saying things like, “Oh!” We hear the enemy saying in our mind: “Oh you’re not going to make it; you’re not going to be able to achieve that! That good break will never happen to you! You’re moving too slow! You can’t make it at this pace! There are people so much more talented, so much better than you, they’re moving at such a rapid rate, this is a rat race, don’t you know?” And so we can hear these things in our mind; sometimes these illusions can get so big in our mind that we’re paralyzed. Almost completely dreading the future, we don’t want to move, can’t get up, and can’t get any energy in our life.

I was talking to a woman who was completely dreading the future, very scared of the future. She was very fearful of the fact that her children may grow up and fall away from God and so she couldn’t get up in the morning, she lost her hope, she lost her strength, lost her enthusiasm for life, even getting up was a chore, so difficult just to get up and go through the day. She started getting very depressed, very hopeless, falling into despair, feeling that there’s no hope for her kids, her family, etc. And so I told her what I’m telling you today. I said: “Whenever you start worrying about the future, whenever you start dreading the big fog that’s in front of us, whenever you start fearing what may happen, your children may fall away from God, they may do terrible things, they may fail in school, they may do all those kinds of things, we can worry on and on about these things. But in the end that is just a big fog that is trying to cloud our vision. This is what the enemy is trying to do so that we don’t succeed, we don’t keep a positive mentality, we don’t keep hopeful for our children, and we don’t keep hopeful for our families.

And so I told her, “Whenever you start dreading the future, you feel like you have no energy, I want you to get up, I want you to go to the kitchen, and I want you to fill up a glass of water. Fill that glass of water; look at that glass of water, remember 4 city blocks of fog in that glass of water. And drink it down, hydrate yourself, drink it down and say, “Bye-bye fog” – let’s tell your neighbor, “Bye-bye fog,” come on, “Bye-bye, bye-bye fog.” – So I said, “Whenever you start getting scared, go to the kitchen; do that. Hydrate yourself. Drink the water. Remember: you’re digesting that fear. Digest it. And move on into a new hope.”

You know, this is exactly what happened to Joshua and Caleb. When Moses sent the twelve spies out to scout and spy on Canaan ten came with a negative report. Ten of them said, “Hey, Moses, you sent us there, we took a look around and there was, it’s terrible, the situation is absolutely horrible; Moses, we cannot get near that thing. If we go near there we’re absolutely doomed.” He said, “You know, Moses, we’re like grasshoppers in their sight; they’re like great giants in front of us. There’s no way we can penetrate into that city.” You see, their fear, their dread, exaggerated their reality. It started to warp their vision. You see, when they looked at Canaan, they saw themselves and they looked at themselves with a distorted mind, a defeated mind. The fear exaggerated the greatness of the Canaan people. And so they looked at themselves and said, “We’re grasshoppers!” But seem, that wasn’t the reality.

Even though if it was thousands of years ago, no matter how small a person is, they’re not usually the size of a grasshopper! See, that was the reality; the reality was that they’re not the size of grasshoppers! In their mind the fear exaggerated their feeling of feeling as small as an insect. But in reality they were not: in reality the Canaan people were not that huge, they weren’t double, triple, quadruple their size, they were human beings just like them; but see, the fear, just like a fog, distorted their mind and warped their sense of reality, and it made them more scared, and it absolutely convinced them that this would be impossible. It would be impossible and they would never make it out. “We are doomed to death,” is what they said.

But you see, two of them came back with a positive report; two of them came back, saying, “You know what, Moses? We went there; we saw the same houses; they’re big. We saw the same people; they’re big. But we’re not that small, and we can do it. We can go in there and the walls can come down. I believe it.” That’s what Joshua and Caleb said. They came back with a positive report. They came back with the more clear report, the more realistic report: we can make it in there, “We can see ourselves as God’s children – we can make it in there and be victorious and actualize the promise that God has given us.”

And so in essence Joshua and Caleb did exactly what that lady did. They went to the kitchen, they put that big fog in a glass of water, drank it down and said, “Bye-bye big fog,” that’s what they said. Let’s tell your neighbor, “Bye-bye big fog,” let’s do that again, “Bye-bye big fog,” we’ve got to do that more. See, they knew that God was in control of their destiny and that they would be victorious.

You see, True Father has taught us that God is eternal. He taught us that God is unchanging. He told us God is unique. He taught us also that the essence of God and His divinity can be known: it is true love. God’s divinity is true love. And thus God’s true love is absolute and unique, unchanging, it’s eternal. You see, when we hear these things we may hear the vocabulary of these things but we may not really grasp it. You see, in the world of eternity, so to speak, in the land of eternity, in the land of everlasting, so to speak, there are no time constraints; there are no present, future, past, it’s all the same to God; you see, God’s love is not influenced by time.

God’s promise is also not influenced by time. He transcends time; He’s beyond time, He can control time. His promise, His love is not predicated on time. And so when God promises a victory – did you know this? – when God promises a victory, it’s already done. Why is that? Because if God promised it yesterday, that’s the same as today and tomorrow for Him. See it’s already done. The victory is already completed. So when He says that we will have victory, when He says that, we will be able to truly, through True Father’s words, through True Parents’ words, be able to inspire the world. This promise, it’s already done. The 95% of portion of responsibility is 100% done. And now what we have to understand is that that 5% is our responsibility. That’s the little portion that has continued and delayed the providential picture. See, all God needs us to do is that last 5%.

And how do you do that? How do you begin working on that last 5%? It seems like a big thing. God did 95%. 5%, that’s still pretty small but maybe it’s quite large. We won’t know how to start. It begins by taking the fog, the fear, out of the mind. It begins by changing our mindset, not having just a temporal mindset, but having the eyes of eternity, looking at God’s promise as already actualized, walking in the promise, so to speak, walking with confidence, walking with faith; that is how we begin that process. See, that begins by having that glass of water. Hey, drink it down, you have the glass of water. Big fog in that one glass of water – I’m drinking it down. Bye-bye lies. Bye-bye fear. Bye-bye curses that have fallen over me. Bye-bye doubt. Bye-bye all the things that have come up against me, obstacles, etc. and we say thank you to God when we do that. Let’s say thank you to God, everybody, let’s give a big round, let’s give Him a big praise! [Applause]

So we have to remember all the people who told us that we would never amount to anything, “You know you guys are not going to amount to anything. You’re never going to do anything great. You guys aren’t really going to do the things that you talk about.” Remember all those people who cursed our lives: “You’re never going to make it! You’re not smart enough! Don’t waste your time there! What are you thinking about, you’re wasting your time, wasting your efforts!” All those kind of curses have come over our life. All those kind of things and negativities have come over us, all the failures that we may have seen in our mind.

People who said that UC would be a failed religion, “Oh, UC is not going to last. After Rev. Moon is not here anymore the church will collapse. There will be no future for UC.” All those things, that is the fear and the fog that clouds our vision. See, to those days we have to say, “Bye-bye.” Let’s say bye-bye, come on, bye-bye, say bye-bye, we’ve got to say bye-bye to that. We have to keep clearing ourselves out of that, out of that mentality. You see, we’ve got to quit worrying about those lies coming true, “My God, will they come true? My God, maybe those prophecies and those curses that come over me and say that I’ll fail, maybe they’ll come true! Oh my goodness, maybe my children will fall away from God, and they’ll be terrible disasters, they’ll be drug addicts and be terrible students and just terrible people.” We can believe all these things but that’s where faith comes in – that’s where we say, “No, I take the stand of hope. I take the stand of faith. I stand to believe that I walk in the promise of God and God’s promise was good yesterday, and it’s good today, and it’s even better tomorrow.” Let’s believe and let’s give it up for God! [Applause] You see we have to believe that God is in control. And we have to know that with certainty that. There are certain uncertain things in our life. But if we know that we’re in the power of God’s hand, we have that greater certainty; we know that we can walk forward in faith.

The prophet Jeremiah was a man who was always warning Jerusalem, he was wandering about Jerusalem, telling the people, “You should turn from your wicked ways! For God will condemn you, God will punish you! Turn from your wicked ways, from your selfish ways!” He was ridiculed at the time; in Jerusalem people thought he was absolutely insane. When the Babylonians attacked Jerusalem, Jeremiah was even in prison because he was speaking towards Jerusalem, criticizing them, saying, “You have to stand up, you have to become better!” So let’s take a look at Jeremiah 18:1-7. Let’s read this together: we’re going to read this together? Yep, there it is, let’s read together: “This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: ‘Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.’ So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred by his hand; so that the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the LORD came to me: ‘O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?’ declares the LORD. ‘Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.’”

See, we forget that we are in the palm of God’s hands. Even if our destiny is marred, is marred, is ruined, is misshaped, disfigured by our human error, God can make a way that we did not see, He can make a way that no man can make. See, God is shaping us and our destiny. He’s molding us to reach that which He desires. Not necessarily what we desire but which He sees fit for us. So many people thought it was over for UC; many prophesied we had absolutely no future; and five years ago there was not so much hope. A lot of people would say that. We were marred; we were beaten down as a religious tradition. We went through the indemnity period; we were persecuted. Our members were kidnapped illegally around the world for believing and having faith in True Parents’ teaching. And so we were really beaten down; we were marred. Our pot was being disfigured. We were really out of shape, so to speak, beaten out of shape. You see, but we have to know that God is molding us into a new pot.

See in this quote in Jeremiah we see that even though the pot was marred, the potter didn’t just give up on it, throw it off the potter wheel and say, “Oh; end of that story. I’m going to try a new one.” See, God said through that potter, He said, “That may be marred, but you know what, I’ll shape it into another pot, which seems best in my eyes.” And so we have to understand, brothers and sisters, that God here in this story saved this pot from disaster. He saved it from flying off the potter’s wheel; He shaped it as it seemed best to Him. And when we overcome challenges in our life we may think it’s because we did it, it’s because we overcame that challenge. But you see, just like God did, when we have that little mar in that potter’s wheel and He’s rolling us on that wheel and we have that little scar, God is going to reshape us so that we move into the proper destiny that He wants us to have, as long as we do our 5%. See, God does the rest. He saved us from disaster and shaped us into what He wants us to become, He’s shaping us into what He thinks is best.

You see as we move towards the growth stage temple, gaining pride in ourselves as UC, we’re seeing an amazing transformation in Unificationists around the world, especially in Korea. People are starting to be excited about being Unificationists once again, having confidence; “Yeah, I am a Unificationist, and I believe in my faith, and I’m proud of my faith.” This is such a beautiful thing to see. One year ago when we started ministry it was so down; we could feel people really losing faith, losing hope, losing confidence in their faith, in their ability to believe in a faith. But in a short span of a year we saw so much incredible things happen and God really was guiding us in the palm of His hand. The media changed, the success of our business group with Kook Jin Hyung there, all these incredible things have happened, best seller Father’s autobiography, best seller, let’s give it up for True Parents, come on [Applause]. I’ve studied religions; I’ve never heard of a religious founder who wrote an autobiography and had it be the national best seller! Usually religious leaders are totally persecuted: Jesus was crucified; Joseph Smith was killed in prison; the Buddha was ostracized and kicked out of his area that he was teaching in; but True Parents have done an incredible thing and we, in a short span of a year, we’re finally seeing the church grow up again. Our church has finally begun to grow again. And this is beautiful because we see that we are getting confident in our faith again. See, we are claiming the last portion of the victory that God has already completed.

When we realize that we’re in God’s hands, we have the freedom; we have the freedom because we know we don’t have to fear the future any more. We don’t have to fear the enemies any more. We don’t have to fear even death; we don’t have to fear the things that come against us, the obstacles that are trying to pull us down, the negative thoughts, etc. We can start having confidence and believe that we will succeed, believe and have hope in our destiny. We can know that God is with us, moving with us, moving and guiding us with His hands. See, when we realize that we are in God’s hands we know that the victory is going to come; it’s just a matter of time. Because for God, think about it: it’s only been a short 50 years for Unification movement; but we’re the most successful religion while the founder is alive! There is no other religion that has made a worldwide foundation while the founder is alive! It’s an incredible, incredible testament to the incredible truth of Unificationism! Let’s give it up for Unificationism, Brothers and Sisters! [Applause]

See, for God, 50 years, that’s nothing. God has been waiting a long time. But He lives in the land of eternity. See, for God, when He promises it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. It happens when we start believing again. It happens when we start having confidence again. It happens when we start having pride in our faith – because nobody’s going to do that for us – when we start believing in the promises that God has given to us, when we start believing that we can be victorious. We can move society, we can be mainstream. When we start believing it again, when we start having hope and enthusiasm in our life, moving towards that destiny, that’s when God says, “You’re ready for it,” that’s when He says, “Come into the victory, the realm of victory,”

You see, what can we learn today, Brothers and sisters? If you believe it, let’s give it up for God and True Parents! [Applause]

Final Prayer by Grace Tadili:

Heavenly Father, today You have given us another blessing with this inspiring message by our beloved Hyung Jin Nim. We pray for Your love and guidance as we bring the essence of this message into our daily lives. Father, please bless this modest offering that we have for You today. David said, “I will not offer to God sacrifices that have cost me nothing.” In our hearts we want to offer only the best. We know that You created each of us for a specific purpose and we pray that we may be able to fulfill our purposes according to Your will in order to bring You joy and glory. Father, we thank You for all the true love and true blessing that You have continuously given us. We pray that we can truly inherit Your true love and be able to share it with all our brothers and sisters all throughout the world so that we can come together as one family under God and True Parents. All this I pray in my name and with all brothers and sisters all over the world, as a blessed central family. Aju!

Rev. Hyung Jin Nim's Interesting Story

July 20, 2009

You know we always like to start with something a little interesting. When we were at the divinity school we always liked to see the funnier side of religion. It’s always important to be able to laugh at yourself.

I heard a very interesting story. A young boy, Tommy, went to service with his mother and after service all of a sudden he declared to mum, “Mum I’m going to be a minister when I grow up.” Mum was very surprised. She said, “Honey, I thought you wanted to be an astronaut. Why do you want to be a minister all of a sudden?” And he said, “Well I figure, you know, I have to go to Sunday service anyways, but instead of sitting and listening silently I’d rather stand up and yell at the crowd!”

Sermon: Dream Now and Forever by Asst. Pastor Michael Brazil / November 8th, 2008

Seeing Your Destiny

July 12, 2009

July 4th 2009, HQ Church, Seoul, Korea

You see, God is asking us in this age to put on the gold and the silver. He’s asking us, “I’m changing the situation for you. I’m changing it to be favorable. I’m changing people to be favorable towards you,” just like He did for the Israelites and the Egyptians. And He said to them, “Then I want you to put the silver and gold on your children”, and that is what God is asking us to do, as a Movement, to put on the silver and gold, so to speak, and to see ourselves in a new way. To understand ourselves in a new way and say to ourselves everyday, “Yes, we can! Yes, we can be an incredible tradition. Yes, we can be the fastest growing religion IN THE WORLD!” I believe it! Aju? YES, WE CAN! YES, WE CAN! That is what God is asking us to do today. (Clapping)

Opening Prayer by Rev. Michael Brazil:

Our Heavenly Father, our Heavenly Mother! We thank You so much for this wonderful day. We thank You for the love and grace that You have showered upon us throughout this past week and today. We really want to sing You praises, we want our hearts to open wide to You, to welcome You, to ask You humbly to come and be with us.

We want to come before You, kneeling and offering our apologies and repentances for every thought, word or deed that we did that hurt You, others or ourselves this past week. And we want to be renewed and re-empowered, knowing that You love us so deeply, that You are forgiving us and that You have forgiven us.

You are encouraging us to be our best, to pursue the destiny that You have given us, to be Your true sons and daughters. You believe in us, You applaud us, You are our biggest fan! Heavenly Father, we truly want to make You proud, we want to fill up Your heart with joy and gladness. We look forward to the day where we no longer have to repent for hurting You; where we can share with You the deepest joy; where we only bring You love, joy, hope and goodness.

Again, we thank You so deeply from the bottom of our hearts for the grace and love that You have given to us. We, again, humbly ask that You be with us. Let us open our hearts so we can receive Your message today, and we ask that You speak through our speaker to help us grow ever closer to You and Your ideal. We very humbly offer all this as blessed central families from around the world. Aju!

Welcoming Remarks:

Yeon Ah Nim

Good afternoon, brothers and sisters! Welcome to the Headquarters of the Unification Church! Last Wednesday it was the 20th Chil Il Cheol, which is the “Declaration of God’s Eternal Blessing”. At the HQ Church we did the celebration with many blessed families and honored Heavenly Father and True Parents.

Brothers and sisters, we are always honored to have you here in this sanctuary, and for those who are joining us via Internet – wherever you are, whatever situation you are in, we are welcoming you. Welcome brothers and welcome sisters!

Hyung Jin Nim

Welcome brothers and sisters! Let’s start by manifesting the Principle. Let’s do it together! Hands together, Give and Receive action, Four Position Foundation, lift it up, coming together as one and inherit the true love of God. Aju! We just did it, we drew our symbol. Every time we start we want to start with that symbol and also as we end our final meditation practice we are going to end with that symbol.

Let’s start with Cheon Seong Gyeong 2396. Father tells us: “You must share true love. Because of false love the mind and body were separated. The husband and wife, brother and sister, were separated. Therefore you can connect to God’s kingdom on earth and in heaven through establishing the point where mind and body can be united, husband and wife can be united and brothers and sisters can be united. That is by sharing true love.”

When we look at our symbol this is our Principle in its essence and core. Whenever we talk about Principle to anybody, we always share what this symbol is. It’s Give and Receive action. Every relationship that we have has Give and Receive action. All our relationships are contained within the Four Position Foundation. They are not only in our family; they are also between mind and body, between us and creation, between us and the community, etc. In the Principle we see these things.

All these things already exist in our lives. However, the question is whether or not they exist centered on true love or on another type of ambition. Father explains that the nature of true love is for the others. When a husband really can devote himself to his wife and honor her then he is sharing true love and he is going to receive that back through that Give and Receive action. If the husband is nagging his wife, looking down on her, not really supporting her then this is exactly what he is going to receive back.

That’s the principle. We see that in every aspect of our life. You can see it throughout the entire universe, you can see it with the atoms, how they relate to each other. We can see this principle everywhere. When we look at this principle, it’s so precious. Really the core of it is learning to share, learning to become givers. When we do that we are going to be able to receive what we have given. So Father is asking us today to make sure that we are giving and sharing true love.

We always want to invite you at the beginning of service to remember that service is not just for observing. We want to participate; we want to get God excited. So, when the Two Rivers choir is up here, singing their praises, let’s do it together, let’s sing together, we want to reach our hands up and touch God’s face, we want to get His blessing today.

When we come to service, we want to come with this kind of attitude. When we do that we become stronger. Our faith becomes stronger, our hope becomes brighter, and as we leave this place, we become more victorious, brighter, and more successful, and we are going to get more things done. If you believe it, let’s give it up for God and True Parents!

Hyung Jin Nim’s remarks about prayer:

Let us take this time to pray for those who have departed. We must never forget those who are not with us in physical form. They are with us in spirit. So, let’s take this time to offer this prayer and praise. When we listen to this song, when we offer our prayer, let’s offer it for the people that we love, that are like guardian angels to us. Let’s gather our hearts and pray for them.

Interesting Story:

I heard a story about a man. His name was Henry. He was very old and was now on his deathbed. He was right about to pass into the spirit world. There he was lying in his bed, very frail and weak. All of a sudden he smelled this incredible fragrance. He thought: “What is this incredible smell?” And then he came to think of it. It was his favorite chocolate chip cookies!

So, he said: “You know what, before I go to heaven I’m going to get myself a cookie, there might not be any in heaven!” He was very frail and wobbly. He must have gathered all his strength to get out of the bed. He walked all the way down the stairs, almost tripping down. He got to the kitchen and saw on the kitchen table about a hundred of his favorite chocolate chip cookies! Absolutely heaven! He thought that this must be heaven.

He walked into the kitchen, he was reaching his hand towards the beautiful, delicious, fragrant cookies and all of a sudden his hand was smacked! As he looked over, he saw his wife standing with a spatula. She said: “Henry, stay out of those. Those are for the funeral!”

Main Sermon:

Brothers and Sisters, today I’d like to talk to you about “Seeing Your Destiny.” You know, in order to live the Blessed Life, we have to be able to envision and see our destiny. Without seeing ourselves differently, our life will never change. Without seeing ourselves reaching our potential and reaching our destiny, we will never be able to reach our destiny.

You see, we have to visualize ourselves. We have to use the practice of our mind, to use the practice of our visualization and see ourselves getting smarter, getting more successful, getting more prosperous in the soul, getting more prosperous in the body, getting more prosperous in the mind, etc.

We have to see ourselves constantly, one year from now, “How am I going to look, what’s going to be our situation?” We have to see ourselves improving, maturing, getting better, and getting more victorious.

It’s important to visualize yourself at the finish line, so to speak, at the mountain top – getting up there and returning that glory up. You see, when we start seeing ourselves, we’re going to start moving in the direction of our success, and in this age of liberation, this is so very important for us as UC to live the Blessed Life.

Let’s take a look at some of these World Scriptures. I’m going to go up to the prompter today and read them together with you. Let’s read Christianity together. This is from Proverbs 3:5. Let’s read that together. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understandings.” Here we see that the Proverbs are teaching us and asking us, that many times we may not understand the situations that we’re in, but that we must learn to trust, to see, to believe in God.

Let’s take a look at the next scripture today. This is from Buddhism. This is from the Sutta Nipata 11 46. Let’s read that together. “By faith you shall be free and go beyond the world of death.” Here, even in Buddhism, a very important aspect of the practice of the eight-fold path is faith, Sahda in Sanskrit, very important to believe in the teachings, to believe in the potential for us to become great ones, etc. It’s very important to see ourselves, to start believing – to have faith in the fact that we can do so.

Let’s take a look at Hinduism today. This is from the Rig Veda; let’s look at this from 10151. We’ll read that together. “Faith is composed of the heart’s intention. Light comes through faith,” the Rig Veda tells us. It’s very important that in our life we understand that faith is the light. Faith is the thing that brings us through darkness. Faith is the thing that holds us up when we’re going through obstacles in the valleys of the shadow of death. Faith is the vehicle that allows us to move into our destiny. It’s very important to believe in our destinies – have faith in it.

Let’s take a look at Islam today. This is the Koran 10th Sura. We’ll read that together. “Truth has come to you from your Lord, so do not be a waverer; do not be someone who rejects God’s signs,” the Koran says. Have faith in the Lord. Have faith that you’re not going to be a “waverer”. Know that we don’t reject God’s signs. Implore us to believe and to have faith in ourselves, believe in our Movement, etc. This is what Islam is asking us for today.

Let’s look at True Parents’ words today, on faith and believing. Let’s read that together: “A Life of Faith consists in living always with an atmosphere of spring, having a renewed mind. In your Life of Faith you must always rejoice and be thankful. When you rejoice in prayer, and experience a constant welling up of pride, your mind is a joyful mind.” And here Father is asking us, telling us again, reminding us that the joyful mind, the faith-filled mind is full of joy, is full of hope, is full of spring, abundance. It’s not full of dreariness and defeated mentality. It’s full of life. It’s full of energy.

You know, when we look at the Bible, there’s a story in Exodus 3. This is the story where Moses meets God, the angel of God, so to speak, in the burning bush. Here God commands Moses, to go and tell the Pharaoh to “let the people go.” “Let the people of Israel go so that that they can now move into their Promised Land, move into the land of milk and honey.”

At this point, Moses is very reluctant. Here he is. He’s already 80 years old. Aaron is 83 years old. They are very tired. They’ve lived a long life. They’ve gone through a lot. They’ve been slaves most of it. They’re very tired out. They don’t know if they can make it. There are a lot of people younger than them. “God, why are you asking me, I’m 80 years old? Can you ask someone a little younger? I’ve got problems in my knees. I’ve got a little hip problem, too.”

You see, God was asking Moses, “You have faith. Believe in the destiny of your people.” And God tells him, “I will sway the Egyptians. I will do wonders and miracles so that they will start to believe.” And then He says to them, “I will change them, so that they are favorably disposed to you and your people.” And this is a very important passage in Exodus. In Exodus 3:22, God says, “Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing which you will put on your sons and daughters.” He tells them, “Go and get it. I will change the situation of the people, so when you ask them for gold and silver, they will give it to you. They will give you necklaces and jewels, and then I want you to put them onto your sons and daughters.”

But see, this was not enough; the Israelites had to do their part. God turned the Egyptians to have favor upon them, but now the Israelites had to go, and they actually had to ask these people. They didn’t know what it’s for. “Why are we asking them for gold and silver? Why do we have to put these things on our children? It makes no sense.”

You see, for over 430 years the Israelites were slaves of Egypt. That means, for 430 year their whole purpose of existence was being a slave. You see, they thought they would never amount to anything. They had told themselves for hundreds and hundreds of years, passed on through generation after generation, “You’re not going to amount to anything. All you’re going to be is a slave. Your whole purpose of existence is being a slave – is working and doing menial labor. That’s your value. You’re not going to have any other value than that.” That’s all they heard for the last 430 years. And if you think about it, 430 years – that’s grand parents, those are parents, and those are children that are hearing these kinds of things.

At the age of eighty years old, again, Moses goes and he asks the Pharaoh. He tells him. Then they have to go and they have to get the silver and the gold. And then you look at this and we ask, “Why did God command them to do such a thing?” In the desert, there’s absolutely no reason to wear jewelry. It’s hot, metal is cumbersome. You’re sweating. It’s going to get nasty and stinky. There’s no good reason to wear jewelry. If you’re wearing jewels, there are bandits – there are all sorts of tribes that may even want to steal that from them. Why would you put the citizens of Israel under such a hazardous condition?

You see, at the time slaves were not able to wear jewels. They were not allowed to wear jewelry. The jewelry was only worn by the merchant class or the wealthy aristocrats. Slaves were not able to wear jewelry. So, in a slaves’ perspective, from a slave’s mentality, they were only good enough to do menial labor. They were only good enough to do the bottom work, to be at the bottom of society. But God wanted to change that, He wanted to change their mind. He wanted to change their way of thinking. And never, in a million years, did the children of Israel believe they’re going to be wearing jewels one day. They didn’t believe it. They said, “It’s never going to happen!”

You could see the young kids walking around saying, “We’re going to be slaves. My dad says I’m going to be a slave. I guess that’s what I’ll become. I guess I’m going to work hard being a slave.” And never did they even think, “One day we’re going to be wearing jewels. We’re going to be the aristocrats. We’re going to be the successful ones.” You see God knew that they had to get out of this defeated mentality – the mentality that brought them down, the mentality that made them buy into the lies that for 430 years their grandparents were told that they were always going to be slaves. Their parents were told, “You’re always going to be slaves.” Their children were told, “You’re always going to be slaves.” They had to break out of that, or else they would not be able to enter the Promised Land.

You see, they had to start changing their perspective of themselves. They had to start changing their identity. And you can imagine, you can start seeing those little children. They’re used to wearing old rags and things like that. Now they’re walking around – and I’m 7 years old and I see my friend, now he’s got jewels on or she’s got jewels on – and I’m looking at him and I’m saying, “Hey wait a minute, I thought we were all going to be slaves. I thought we were all destined to just be at the bottom. Wait a minute, why are you wearing that jewelry? That’s right, that’s right; we’re not going to be there forever. We’re going to move out. God has promised a land of milk and honey. We’re going to move towards that.”

You see, God was asking them to change their perception of themselves. He was saying, “Look at yourself in a different way,” and he started with external form. He started with making them change the way they appeared.

You know, I was in a barber shop one day getting a hair cut because, as you know, with hair, you have to cut it. This is a very cumbersome thing, because when I was bald, I didn’t have to go to a barber shop; I’d just do it myself. It’s much better. But I was there sitting and the TV’s on and there was a show about these people getting makeovers and the show had this lady come out. She had totally no confidence in herself, no self-esteem. She was totally beaten down. She had believed the lies in her mind that were passing through every day. “You’re so fat, you’re ugly, and you’re never going to amount to anything. You look terrible. Boy, how you really let yourself slip, you look really bad. Boy, that cellulite is everywhere now.” She started believing all these kind of things.

And so you could see her. She was doing the interview, she was crying, she was crying to the camera saying “I don’t have any self-esteem, I can’t go out. I’m a prisoner of my own home. I don’t want to go into the streets. I feel so terrible about myself.” You could see her, really not valuing herself at all. But you see, they are challenged on these makeover shows. The people are challenged. They’re not just told, “Oh, you’re beautiful just the way you are. You’re beautiful. Keep those grandma pyjamas on – you look fantastic!” They’re not told that. They’re told, “Honey, get up out of your sofa, get on to a treadmill. Get some good food in you.” They’re challenged by the professionals. The professionals come out – they’re all fit – and they make them do the exercise routine. They make them do the stair climber, the treadmill, the eclipse thing, all that kind of stuff. They make them diet. They take them shopping. They buy them a new wardrobe. They do their hair and make-up and now they’re looking at themselves and saying, “Hey there, wait a minute. I’m looking a lot better. I never thought I could look like this. I thought I was a prisoner in my grandma pyjamas. Now I’m looking fantastic.”

Now they’re starting to change her perspective, the perspective of that person’s self. Many times in those shows they will have the host enter into the person’s house, go in their closet, scourge around in there and throw out those old sweat pants and the big, big baggy old waistband pyjamas that they’re wearing around the house all the time. You’ll see episodes all the time when the people will then say, “Oh, you can’t throw that away, I’ve been wearing that for 10 years, 15 years.” And they’ll say, “Honey that is the reason why we’re going to throw that away. We’re going to let it go, let it go.” They throw it out.

You see, what they’re doing, in essence, is changing the person’s image of themselves. They’re making them believe in a new “me” – in a new them, to see themselves in a new way; seeing their destiny in a different picture. Not only seeing themselves when they are 50 and 60 becoming bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and doing less and less and getting older and then just passing away. But re-envisioning their destiny in a new way. “Wait a minute; I’m going to become younger. I’m going to become even more fit. I’m going to become even more active. I’m going to become successful and healthy.” They start seeing themselves in a totally different light and this is exactly what God was telling the Israelites to do with their children.

He was saying, “If you are going to enter into the Promised Land, you’ve got to see yourself in a different way. You’ve got to see yourself like that. Look at those guys, they’re totally different. They look fantastic!”

You see, in the same aspect, even when we started in ministry with UC, it was the same way with us. You know, for 30 years we have been told by society that we’re heretics, we’re a cult. “You’re a cult; you’re a pass-by religion.” We’ve been attacked. Our members around the world have been kidnapped. They’ve been illegally kidnapped in different nations – kidnapped for “deprogramming”, but kidnapped, illegally, and tortured to leave. We’ve been harassed at school, we’ve been harassed at work, and we’ve been harassed in life, for being Unificationist. We’ve been derogatorily, pejoratively called “Moonies” and things like this. So, over time, we’ve been beaten down by these lies. Just like the Israelites had heard for over 430 years. “You’re never going to amount to much; your movement is going to pass by. It’s not going to be anything big – you people are crazy! There are 27 working messiahs in this world – you all believe in a messiah – we don’t need that belief. We all believe in a messiah.” We’ve all been told these things and we have started to slowly believe it.

Nobody thought we could change the media here in Korea. Nobody! When we started doing interviews, people were telling us, “You’re crazy! Don’t do it! They’re going to attack us. They’re going to flip it and attack you!” We turned that around.

Nobody thought that we could change the business portfolios and make them profitable. Kook Jin Hyung did that. Nobody thought in Korea that Father would write an autobiography. Who has heard of a religious founder writing an autobiography and having a best seller, a national best seller? I have never heard of that in my study of religion. I have never heard of that! Let’s give it up for True Father! (Clapping)

Nobody said we could witness. Everybody said, “You can’t witness to professionals. There’s nothing attractive about our Church. Principle is dead, it’s past, it’s old age. You know, that was working in the 70’s.”

Forty percent of the Chaedan, they’re all professionals, they’re all members now! Forty percent. Nobody thought we could actually actualize the goal when we started here in ministry in Headquarter Church. Our initial goal was, within this year, to create the congregation so that we could serve 2,000 members. When we started that, it was totally insane. Everybody was saying, “It’s impossible! There’s no way! There are not even 2,000 members in this area! You’re not going to be able to serve 2,000 members!” Right now, at Headquarter Church, we have over 8,000 registered members. Let’s give it up for UC! Clapping)

Even one year ago when we were talking about True Father’s mission to now build the Temple – 21,000 members in a temple, that’s world class! That’s the major leagues! 21,000 in one area in Seoul – we had so many people say, “That’s insane, there’s no way. There’s no way it’s possible! Unificationists – we can’t do that! We’re never going to be at that level – at least not in our lifetime. It’s going to be maybe 500 years, a thousand years from now. 21,000 members – that’s more members than in all of Korea. How is that possible? 21,000 new members we have to make, and create new Unificationists that have faith and believe?”

Now we’ve seen an incredible turnaround. In about one year, we have seen an incredible turnaround. People who said, “That’s absolutely impossible,” are now saying, “Wait a minute! Hey, maybe it’s possible! Maybe it’s doable. Maybe we can do it. Maybe we can go world class. Maybe we can get to the major leagues, so to speak.”

(Clapping)

You know, every morning we circumambulate the Chung Bok Goong, the site which is now under construction. It’s really incredible. In the mornings we’re out there doing the circumambulations; we do 8 rotations around the Chung Bok Goong after mediation, offering 120 bow devotional training. And then while we’re rotating, it’s just incredible.

There are these incredible apartments all around. There are these premium level parks all around, with benches and everything, and in the streets there are lights that change colour. The little box lights – they change colour. From red to green, from purple to brown, from brown to whatever – they’re changing lights. It looks like you’re literally walking on a sea of stars as you’re walking around and circumambulating the Temple – very beautiful. And I can see myself envisioning Unificationists in a totally different way. I can see myself, how my mind is changing, saying, “Wait a minute, Yes, we are going to go to the world stage. It is going to be possible.” I can see myself seeing this building and saying, “My God, we’re in the middle of Seoul, our Unification Movement is getting stronger. Look at this. All these people, I believe, will become Unificationists – they’re going to come to our Church.” If you believe it, let’s give them a big round of applause, in advance. (Clapping) It’s just so amazing, amazing! We couldn’t even imagine this one year ago. But now God is saying, “I prepared a situation for you. I’ve made favor for you as a Unification Movement and now you’re going to move to the next stage.”

Here, when we see that area, of course we know that when we enter into that Temple there are going to be a whole new group of people that will understand the Principle. But I know that some of us may enter with that defeated mind set, “Oh look at these people. Oh well, they’re not going to understand us, they can’t be witnessed to.” But I do believe that the majority of us will enter into the Temple and say, “You know what? Yes, we can; yes, we can be successful. Yes, we can be attractive to all these people. Yes, we can witness to all these people, make new members and create a thriving community. Yes, we can build UC to be an amazing tradition that takes the national stage, that captures the imagination of the world that brings together the religions. Yes, we can!” I believe that we’re going to go in as a majority like that. And when we do that, then we’re changing our perspective. Yes, we can see our children grow up in this kind of neighbourhood, seeing them grow up to be successful; seeing them to actualize their destiny. Seeing them to become the great global leaders they’re supposed to be, that they are destined to become.

Brothers and Sisters, what can we learn today? You see, it’s all about seeing our destiny. It’s all about seeing ourselves in our destiny, in the picture of our destiny. You see, God has an incredibly planned situation around us – just like he did for the Israelites. He planned the situation so that the Egyptians were favorably disposed to them and they had to take advantage of that situation. They had to move towards the Promised Land.

You see, it’s so important in our age, in this day and age, to start believing, “Yes, we can be successful as a Unification Tradition. Yes, we can be attractive. No longer will we be a cult. Yes, we will become a phenomenal world religion. Yes, we will become at the world stage, and move the hearts and minds of people centering on the Principle.” This is the faith and the belief and the seeing of our destiny that we have to have in order to really make it actualize. We have to let go of those defeated mentalities, those limited thinkings that are holding us back, saying, “You can’t make it, there’s no way. There’s nothing possible, it’s totally impossible. You’re not going to be able to do that.” We have to start letting those go. You know why? Because God is saying, “I’m making you over. I’m giving you a makeover. I’m changing your appearance. I’m changing your situation. So now I have you in my favor and now I’m going to build you up to be the great children that you were destined to become.” Let’s give it up for UC! (Clapping)

If we go forth with this kind of confidence, I absolutely believe, we will find ourselves truly inheriting the love of God. We will actualize the unity that True Father has always sought and we will be able to be the global citizens that Unificationists are destined to become. If you believe it, let’s give it up for God and True Parents today! (Clapping) We are entering into our Promised Land.

Hyung Jin Nim’s Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You so much for this day that You have blessed upon us. We pray and hope, we have faith and we believe that You are instilling within us a new vision for ourselves in our lives. You want us to let go of all those past defeats and failures. You want us to say “Bye-bye!” to the past, to the uncertainties. We know that You want us to move beyond the fears and doubts. We want You to know that we will step into faith and into the light.

We pray that You may give us strength and courage on this day, for You have challenged us to see ourselves in a new way. You have challenged us to be all that we can become from the individual level to our worldwide movement. We pray that we may be connected to that, that we may bring forth that incredible light to this world.

We thank You so much Father, for we know that You have great confidence in us. Let us also have confidence in ourselves. We are proud Unificationists and today we want to offer all this to You in praise and glory and thanksgiving, in our own names we want to offer this. We offer this together as we join our hands and create the Unification symbol. Give and Receive action, Four Position Foundation, may I inherit the true love of God. Aju!

Offering Prayer by Mrs. Ing Keng Brandner:

Our dearest Heavenly Father! We want to thank You for this life that You have given to us. We have to see ourselves in a different light. Indeed each one of us is a jewel to You; precious jewels that you don’t see. But You see the beauty in each one of us. We thank You that we can be building blocks for You.

We thank You that You are the source of our love, life and lineage. At this time You have called each one of us, so that we can be walking at the same time and breathing the same air as our True Parents.

We really thank You for this inspirational sermon given by our dear Rev. Hyung Jin Moon. We are so inspired that You have given us this life, this life that is so precious. Generation after generation we never want to forget to give thanks to You. As each one is bringing this offering to You with a sincere and honest heart, however small it is, may each be a pure offering so that You can accept it.

We want to thank You for everything that You have given to us. With this, give us the strength for the week. We want to offer this to You and I pray and ask all this in our names and in my name, Ing Keng Brandner, as blessed central family. Aju!

Rev. Hyung Jin Nim's Interesting Story

July 12, 2009

We always like to start with something a little interesting, start with a little interesting thing. I heard a story about two mother-in-laws that dragged a young man in a three-piece suit to King Solomon. They went before him and the first lady said, “King Solomon, this man must marry my daughter.” And the second lady said, “King Solomon, this man must marry my daughter.” So they kept on going, all about this and they kept arguing.

And King Solomon had to silence them saying, “Silence, ladies, please, please, let’s be civil here.” And he said, “Get me my sword and I shall slice this man in half. And you can have half, and you can have half. In that way you’ll be happy. And the first lady said, “That’s a great idea. Bring your sword!” And the second lady said, “Oh, don’t shed innocent blood. It is all right. Let the first lady have the lawyer.” (Laughter).

And so King Solomon immediately proclaimed, “So the first lady’s daughter will marry this lawyer—this very young man.” And at that, one of the King’s advisors said, “But King Solomon, this woman was willing to slice her son-in-law in half. How could you give him to such a woman?” And he said, “Well, now, I know that she is really a mother-in-law.” (Laughter).

Rev. Hyung Jin Nim's Closing Prayer

July 12, 2009

Let’s gather our hearts in prayer.

Heavenly Father, dearest most beloved True Parents.

Father, we thank You for this day that You have blessed upon us. We have shared today in this sanctuary. We were able to gather together as one family. Here with You internationally, nationally, personally, we pray that we truly can bring joy to You this day. Today we have been able to sing songs together; we’ve been able to pray together. We’ve been able to shed tears and also laugh together.

We thank you for the words that You have shared, Father, that we may understand that our potential is truly great and, Father, that You never give up on us. Let us always know that when we face our futures or our destinies, You have amazing things planned for us and that each day we should be striving to move closer towards those amazing plans. Let us truly burgeon and blossom in our lives, and let us be a great blessing to this world.

We know that each and every one of us has that amazing potential. Let us not forget during the trials and tribulations or the obstacles and the challenges that we may face in our lives, Father, that we have always the hope that is embedded within our hearts. We always have the potential and the wisdom that are necessary for us to overcome those tasks, Father, because You never give us challenges or goals that are too great for us to achieve. You have always put them within the range of our possibility and potential. Let us always know that we can come to greater and greater heights, Father, that we have never seen our best day yet, but that each day of our life can become more great, more illuminated, more victorious, more filled with peace, and a greater blessing to this world.

We thank You for this day, that You have spoken to us, that You have uplifted us, that You have allowed us to share in Your heart, and we pray that we may return that glory to You every single day, return that to our brothers and sisters around this world, next to us in our communities, and our family members who are right around us.

Father, we thank You so much. We pray that You may be with each and every one of these family members, brothers and sisters, joining us today. We pray that we may truly live that blessed life that You have blessed us to live. Father, thank You so much.

We pray these things together in our own names as central blessed families here together. Aju, aju.

He Knows My Name – New Song

July 9, 2009

I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in His hand.

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call.

I have a Father
He calls me His own
He’ll never leave me
No matter where I go.

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call.
